Villarreal signs deal with Roig Arena Image: Villarreal CF

Spanish LaLiga club Villarreal CF and the under-construction Roig Arena in Valencia have agreed a sponsorship deal.

Villareal CF said the agreement was sealed with Roig Arena, the future large multi-purpose indoor arena in the city of Valencia, where sporting, entertainment and corporate events will be held.

The 18,600-capacity Roig Arena, previously proposed as the Casal España Arena, is expected to open in September. The Roig Arena will serve as the home base for both the men’s and women’s Valencia Basket Club teams.

Valencia Basket Club S.A.D., commonly known as Valencia Basket, is a professional basketball team based in Valencia, Spain. The team plays in the Liga ACB, the top professional basketball division of the Spanish basketball league system and they currently play their home games at the 9,000-capacity Font de Sant Lluís in Valencia. The club is owned by the retail tycoon Juan Roig.

The Roig Arena project has a budget of more than €280 million, financed entirely by Roig, president of Mercadona, from his personal assets.

As part of the deal with Villarreal the arena was promoted on the front of Villarreal’s shirts during the recent home match against Real Madrid.

Villarreal play their home matches at the recently refurbished 23,500-capacity Estadio de la Cerámica.

The shirt sponsorship is part of a wider collaboration between Roig Arena and Villarreal. The agreement was presented at an event attended by club president Fernando Roig, along with first-team players Dani Parejo and Raúl Albiol.

The announcement of the partnership coincided with the club’s 102nd anniversary, marking over a century of football history in Vila-real.

Three pivotal figures have defined this journey: the club’s first president, José Calduch Almela; Pascual Font de Mora, under whose leadership the team first ascended to Segunda División; and the current president and majority shareholder, Fernando Roig Alfonso, who has guided the club into Spain’s top tier and achieved significant milestones, including winning the UEFA Europa League.

The contributions of all prior presidents have also played a vital role in this storied history.

From its regional beginnings to becoming a European competitor and securing silverware, Villarreal’s journey began on March 10, 1923, when the sports society was founded under the name CD Villarreal by local pharmacist José Calduch Almela.

This is the first part of the ambitious collaboration agreement between the Yellows and the future multi-purpose indoor arena.

Villareal said in a statement, “Thanks to this collaboration, Villarreal CF and the Roig Arena will capitalise on their link and strengthen their identity and values, linked by their pride for their local environment, sense of belonging, and of course, the culture of hard work.

“Both brands will come together to stay at the cutting-edge of sport, leisure, entertainment and culture.”
