Stade Brestois 29 new venue in the pipeline

The Ligue 1 team Stade Brestois 29 (France) has submitted designs for a new stadium to be built by 2026. The top-flight’s new venue has been the subject of discussion by the club and the locals for years together.

The ‘Get French Football News’ stated that it will be a 15,000-seat venue and would be a miniature version of the Bundesliga giants FC Bayern Munich home ground – the 75,000-capacity Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany – with flowing lines and curved bowl-like sides. A small ground, only 11,800 seats, will be available for the general public with the rest reserved for club partners.

Stade Brestois 29 is a French football club based in Brest, France. It was founded in 1950 following the merger of five local patronages, including Armoricaine de Brest, founded in 1903. Following the 2018-2019 seasons, the club has been playing in Ligue 1, the top division of French football.

Stade Francis-Le Blé is a multiuse stadium in Brest, France. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of Stade Brestois 29. The stadium is able to hold 15,097 spectators. The stadium is named after Francis Le Blé, former Mayor of Brest, who passed away in 1982.

The ‘Get French Football News’ further stated that work on the new venue has not been planned before 2024 but the designs have been in the works for the last four years. The new facility will sit a shouting distance away from the club’s current training center and will also be a stone’s throw away from the local airport. Overall, the new venue will be well-connected.

The club’s current residence – Stade Francis-Le Blé – which also holds just over 15,000 fans, will not be retained. By the time the new venue of the top-notch opens its doors, Stade Brestois 29 will complete more than 75 years in their present digs.

Brest Major François Cuillandre said Stade Francis-Le Blé “No longer meets the requirements of Ligue 1 and is still being considered because the club’s new stadium is in the pipeline. We must allow the club to function hitch-free and remain on the top of the heap.”
